Mortal Kombat Dev Allegedly Got Fatality Ideas from QA to Prevent Paying Extra for Them

 Numerous former employees and contractors in NetherRealm have criticized the studio’s working civilization over the past fourteen days, and further reports since then have indicated things were particularly bad for the workers who were not employed full time at the corporation. These remarks were motivated by many other reports on business working conditions over the past couple of months, most lately including crunch on Fortnite. According to anonymous sources who worked on titles such as Injustice 2, and Mortal Kombat 9, X, temporary workers frequently received signs of full-time employment, but have been seldom brought on board as employees.

Still, contractors making around minimal were asked to contribute to larger portions of the game. One anonymous source informs USgamer that some Mortal Kombat deaths come in temp workers, as part of open invitations for ideas. They invite the temp employees because they can give away an awesome thought without needing to pay them extra for it. One person from QA made storyboards to their fatality sequence that was proposed. Their thought made it in, but they never got that full-time position they had been chasing. Basically, this report – and another from Personal Computer Gamer – indicate that the studio was particularly exploitative of those contractors.

One source states I know full-time workers that would take additional long lunches and told the contractors when they can take their lunch, or when they can take their break. They’d micromanage us. Another source says contractors were called nicknames behind their backs plus they were quite inappropriate, specifically for women. A whole lot of the nicknames for females were really disgusting and disoriented. Those remarks are on top of reports of crunch and overwork, very comparable to what we have heard from studios such as Rockstar and Telltale, as more programmers have started to feel comfortable discussing their experiences. NetherRealm has yet to issue a response to these reports.
