China Drops Restrictions of Some COVID-19 Equipment Exports

China is relaxing a requirement that a number of vital virus care products get domestic regulatory approval before export, so long as they are authorized in the importing nations, the commerce ministry stated Saturday.

China had been stipulating such extra approval at residence since the finish of March after several European nations complained that Chinese-made test kits had been inaccurate, in effect hampering many companies’ efforts to supply international efforts against the coronavirus pandemic.

The new ruling applies to products resembling coronavirus tests, medical masks, protective gowns, infrared thermometers, and ventilators.

Products with overseas clearance or registration, after relevant verification by a trade group approved by the commerce ministry, might be allowed for export, Li Xingqian, an official at China’s commerce ministry, said on Sunday during a media briefing.

Zhang Shuwen, the chief of Liming Bio-products, a biotech firm providing coronavirus tests targeting the abroad market, said he believes the new rule is a sensible revision to the earlier one.

The earlier ban vexed medical device companies in the cities of Hangzhou and Shenzhen, which tried to seek support from local governments, Zhang added.

Many nations around the world have been scrambling to buy or make enough personal protective gear for medical employees and care workers at risk of infection, and also assessments to trace contagion and identify people who can leave quarantine.
